About the Great Lakes biplane
The Great Lakes 2T-1A is a two-seat open-cockpit aerobatic biplane. The design dates from the late 1920s, and new production in the 1970s gave pilots a classic-looking biplane with a modern Lycoming engine. The 2T-1A-2 version has a 180-horsepower fuel-injected engine with inverted fuel and oil systems for aerobatics.
It is flown for sport aerobatics, training and the simple pleasure of open-cockpit flying.
What to Check When Buying a Used Great Lakes biplane
- Condition of the wooden wing structure and fabric covering.
- Aerobatic use history and any structural inspections.
- Inverted fuel and oil systems.
- Engine hours and propeller condition.
- Hangar storage history, since fabric and wood suffer outdoors.
